5 Broth Boosters To Fight The Common Cold

Bone Broth is rich in immune boosting minerals and for centuries has been used as a powerful cold and flu remedy. However you can always up the immune fighting power of your broth. Here are 5 of our favourite broth boosters to help get you through the winter sniff free.

Garlic: Garlic is a wonderful natural antimicrobial due to its allicin content, which fights against infections.

Carrots: This is largely attributed to the beta-carotene in carrots which is what gives them their orange pigment. Beta-carotene is a precursor to vitamin A which is an important immune boosting nutrient.

Parsley: Parsley is a great source of zinc and without adequate levels of zinc in the diet our body's resistance to infections is significantly compromised.

Turmeric: Turmeric is a powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory. When our immune system is fighting an infection, free radicals are produced in the process causing inflammation and damage to our cells. Antioxidants offset this damage and reduce the negative impacts causing during the immune activation phase.

Leafy greens vegies: Such as spinach and kale which are a rich source of vitamins and minerals particular B vitamins. B vitamins are a strong regulator of our immune system and required for the production of antibodies. B vitamins are easily destroyed by heat so careful not to overcook them in the broth. Just add them in once the broth is at a medium temperature, just enough to make it soften.
